Trump Orders Intelligence Community to Cooperate with Attorney General William Barr’s Review of Russia Probe

Donald Trump has issued an order that allows Attorney General William Barr to declassify information, that Barr sees fit, into his review of events that prompted the FBI to investigate possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia.

White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders said just after Trump had issued the order, “Today, at the request and recommendation of the attorney general of the United States, President Donald J. Trump directed the intelligence community to quickly and fully cooperate with the attorney general’s investigation into surveillance activities during the 2016 presidential election.”

In an April Senate hearing, Attorney General William Barr said that U.S. intelligence agencies had spied on Trump’s campaign, although Barr referred to his prior “spying” comments as focused on “unauthorized surveillance.”

Barr recently assigned a top Connecticut federal prosecutor to investigate the origins of the Russian Probe.
